Charles-Henri is an animal scientist, dealing with Livestock Farming Systems (PhD thesis in 1993), and lecturer at Institut Agro Montpellier. He is also deputy-chief of the UMR Mediterranean and Tropical Livestock Systems (Selmet) at Montpellier. In the course of his career, he has studied the practices and the management systems of livestock farmers in agropastoral landscapes in Mediterranean (France, Maghreb) and tropical countries (West Africa, Brazil). He carried out his research through monitoring and interviews with family farmers and ranchers in order to model the operation of agropastoral systems and study their past and future dynamics. He founded and is co-animator of UMT-Pasto, a partnership among research institutes, higher education establishments and technical institutes dealing with pastoralism in France.
